Welcome to Professional and Continuing Education

Every year, we help thousands of non-traditional students continue their education at the University of Vermont. Through collaborations with UVM’s various colleges and schools, we offer courses and programs to help you explore your options, whether you’re planning a career change, looking for personal enrichment or professional development, or preparing for an undergraduate or advanced degree.

Advising and Student Support

We are dedicated to helping you access the University of Vermont. Our role is to aid in the course selection process by understanding your experience and goals, guiding you through registration, and serving as your resource during your time at UVM. Our Advisory Board

Jill Irvine, PhD

Jill Irvine is the Chief Officer of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), a unit dedicated to serving providing access to the University of Vermont for a wide variety of learners throughout their lifetime. She began her role at UVM in 2021.

College Credit Courses

Every semester, non-degree students enroll in more than 400 courses offered at convenient times for working professionals and part-time students. Undergraduate and graduate-level courses are offered for individuals interested in personal enrichment, as well as for professional and career advancement. Courses taken through UVM PACE can also prepare you for a UVM undergraduate or graduate degree program. There is no application process for taking an individual course. We encourage you to contact us for help in course selection and the registration process, especially if you’re a first-time student.

Certificate and Sequence Programs

In collaboration with various UVM colleges, Professional and Continuing Education offers programs in health, business, education, college re-entry, engineering, accounting, and the environment. Designed for working professionals, these programs are often shorter than a degree program and provide a body of knowledge applicable to career change and career advancement.

Professional Credit Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences

UVM offers professional development opportunities for mid- to high-level business owners and managers, as well as national higher-education administrative, student affairs, and legal professionals. Legal Issues in Higher Education annual conference has an outstanding reputation in higher education and reaches a national audience.
